About the award
The Channel Island Children’s Book Awards (CICBA) celebrate excellence in children’s writing and illustration by inviting Channel Island children to vote for their favourite books of the past year.
Launched in 2018, the CICBA is now in its third year! In addition to our Children’s Book of the Year category, this year sees the launch of the new Picture Book of the Year category, showcasing the best new illustrated books for younger children.
A joint initiative between Guernsey’s Guille-Allès Library and the Jersey Public Library, our ambition is to engage children by making sure their voices are heard, with local children empowered to read the shortlisted titles and vote for their winner.
This year the CICBA is encouraging parents and guardians, teachers and library staff to nominate books for both categories. Our panel of judges will read all the eligible nominations and decide on the final shortlist. Island schools are invited to run book groups to discuss and review the shortlisted titles before the children decide who they want their winner to be!
The winner is announced at a special award ceremony, the location of which moves from island to island each year.
