About the award
The Channel Island Children’s Book Award (CICBA) celebrates excellence in children’s writing by inviting Channel Island children aged 9-12 to vote for their favourite book of the past year.
A joint initiative between Guernsey’s Guille-Allès Library and the Jersey Public Library, our ambition is to engage children by making sure their voices are heard, with local children empowered to nominate and vote for their favourite book that fits the award criteria.
At the start of the school year children can nominate via the CICBA website, and then all eligible books are whittled down by a panel of judges into a final shortlist. All island schools then run book groups to discuss and review the shortlisted titles.
Children have until 17 July to pick their favourite book and vote online. The winner is announced at a special award ceremony in September, this year taking place at the Guille-Allès Library in Guernsey.
